Not sure what your blog should be about?
Choosing the right blog niche is the hardest part of starting a blog. It is critical to its popularity and profitability.
But is a “blog niche” anyways?
A blog niche is a clearly defined topic (or set of topics) covered by a particular blog and written with a specific audience in mind. That audience comprises of a community of people interested in your clearly defined topics.
By choosing a very specific niche you’re setting yourself up to be seen as a specialist, an expert or trusted advisor to that group of people. People don’t want a jack of all trades when it comes to solving their problems. They want to trust that the solutions you provide them are coming from an expert.
Niches can be broad: “Weight Loss” or more focused: “Weight Loss for busy moms with kids.”
Now, niches can be tricky because if your focus is too broad or generic, you won’t appeal to anyone in particular and your visitors will be confused about if what you have to offer is truly right for them.
On the other hand, if your niche is too small, you squeeze people out of your market and there will be no one to sell. You need a niche that has enough interested people so you can attract a steady stream of traffic, followers, and income.
Now it is true that you can blog about anything, but blogging and building a business blogging are two totally different things. If you are blogging to earn a living you want to make sure you are blogging about something that you are passionate about, something that people find value in and something that is profitable. If you lack any one of these three things, you have a hobby, not a business.
So, if you are struggling to find your niche, but want to make sure you choose one that has the potential to get you in profit mode quickly, I want to help you understand which niches make money as well as give you some ideas (well a lot of ideas) on profitable niches moving forward.
Types of Blogs that Make Money
Now you may be wondering what KINDS of blogs make money. Well, as I mentioned earlier, you can make money blogging on just about anything, but there are some blog topics that have the potential to make you more money than others. (That’s’ why you want to choose your niche wisely)
I have been blogging for almost 8 years and I have seen people monetize and make over 6-figure talking about some crazy stuff. Nowadays, with YouTube Vloggers and Instagrammers, making money with a blog is more about how creative and compelling you are versus any particular niche you choose. I mean really, if you can make 7-figures blogging about pugs, then you can make money blogging about anything your heart desires!!
But what you really want to know is – “What are the most profitable blogging niches?”
Niches fall in and out of popularity based on trends and what’s “hot” at the moment, but there are a few niches that are tried and true, and tend to be popular and profitable no matter what. Here is a brief overview of the most profitable blog niches that we will cover:
Making Money Online
Whether you are teaching people how to make money blogging or how to become super affiliates on Amazon, the appeal for making money online is high.
Here are a few of my favorite make money online blogs:
Mom Blog
Motherhood can sometimes feel isolating, especially if you don’t have a mom tribe to turn to. There is nothing like a mom blog. Mommy bloggers write about their lifestyle as parents. From changing diapers to fun play dates, self-care to being a #momboss, these bloggers provide strong examples of motherhood and deliver first-hand experience to mothers going through the journey of raising children.
Here are a few of my favorite mom blogs:

People are always looking for new ways to look sexy and there are so many different ways you can go with your fitness blog.Health and fitness bloggers motivate millions of people looking to lead more active lifestyles. Plus, fitness bloggers come in all shapes and sizes, teaching on everything from Paleo to Keto, Beach Body to Yoga, Crossfit to Kids health – the possibilities are endless.

Personal Finance + Investment Blog
Want to really make money online? Teach people how to make it and keep it. One of the most popular ways to make money from blogging is by telling people how they can make money. There are TONS of finance bloggers making 6-figures online talking about everything from budgeting to building wealth with real estate, stocks to cryptocurrency.
This is a popular niche for bloggers because people are always looking to make a quick “come up”, looking to get out of debt or looking for ways to simply manage their money better. Plus, people will spend money to learn how to make more money. Here are a few of my favorite finance and budgeting blogs:
Beauty Blog
Are you passionate about beauty? Known for their detailed makeup tutorials, flawless hairstyles, and expert product recommendations, beauty bloggers understand the game of glam. Influencers in this niche set trends for what’s popular in nails, skincare, and hair.
Travel Blog
Getting paid to travel the world? I admit it’s a pretty sweet gig. Travel blogging has given a lot of people the freedom to travel while sharing their experiences with others. Want to start your own? Starting a travel blog is an amazing niche to explore.
Love + Relationship Blog
Think you have what it takes to help someone find love. Advice on a relationship issue (romantic, friendship, workplace, family, etc. all count as possible relationships here!)
DIY Blog
Do you spend hours upon hours browsing ideas on Pinterest? (guilty!) Is your idea of a fun weekend completing that DIY project that has been calling your name? Is your house filled with IKEA hacks and unique items you’ve created yourself?
If this is you, then a DIY blog might be your thing. DIY blogs are killing it. They drive tons of traffic and whether you are showing people how to make a chair out of toothpicks or how to create chalkboard painted walls in the shape of monkeys, DIY is a growing niche and that there is a specialty area for everyone.
Home Decor + Decorating Blog
In another life, I would have totally been a Home Decor blogger. I love everything about renovating, interiors and making things beautiful. If you have a love for decorating then a home decor blog may be right for you! Here are just a few of my favorite Home Decor blogs.
Fashion Blog
For a girl who rocks yoga pants and flip flops every day, even I know that fashion is one of the most popular topics in the world for blogging. Fashion is a very visual and engaging topic to talk about. It’s hot on Instagram and Pinterest and is something that has a broad appeal, especially amongst women. Here are a few of my favorite fashion influencers.

Great blog post, with lots of hot topics. Was surprised to see Beards and Mens Grooming in the top 55. It can be hard not just in finding a niche but one that truly interests you so that you have lots to write about and want to create those posts. Your blog has a great layout and is appealing as well.
