Alright, WomanpreuHERs!! Let’s talk about what I believe is the most powerful opt-in incentive you can have for growing your list and boosting sales.
A resource library.
So, first off, What’s a resource library?
A resource library is basically just a private page on your blog that holds a collection of your best content upgrades and lead magnets amongst other tools and resources that are beneficial for your subscribers. Your library can be filled with digital downloads, tech tutorials, motivational videos or audios, podcast interviews whatever you want as long as it’s high value.
What’s awesome about a resource library is that as you create more freebies and content upgrades you have a hub where people can get access to all those goodies. This is like the ultimate opt-in because people are getting massive value from you all at once. If your resource library is good, your subscribers will feel like they’ve hit the jackpot.
I have been able to grow my email list to over 20,000 subscribers and a huge part of my growth can be attributed to the resource library I promote and market to attract my ideal customer and audience!

how to start and set up your resource library
So to give you a visual of what this looks like, here’s how I have my resource library set up! When someone opts-in they are taken to password protected page but also get a welcome email that has the password so they can get access. Now they have access to this vault of resources 24/7, I never change the password, and they can download what they are interested.
why a resource library?
Now in case you are wondering, why a resource library? Isn’t one opt-in enough? How is this going to help me grow my list?
Because your resource library is a really high-value opt-in, something super unique that they can’t find anywhere else, people are more inclined to want to sign up and get that. Plus this is a rare case, where more is better.
Now how do you set something like this up?
This is really easy to do in WordPress and I am sure in Squarespace as well, but basically, you create a new page, and then on the right-hand side there is an option next to the Publish button where you can select a password for that page. You type in the password (make sure you remember it – also it’s case sensitive) and when I send my subscribers an email in my welcome series, I send them the password.
So you can see here in my welcome email to new subscribers, they would see a link to visit the library, and then in the bold text you can see the password here.
what do you put into your library and how much?
You can put anything of value in there, PDFs, checklists, stock photos, templates, cheat sheets, videos, webinar replays, and even audios. So, whenever you create a content upgrade, put it in your library and it will fill up your library with useful content pretty quickly.
Now I would not necessarily recommend creating a resource library until you have about 5-7 high-value downloads for people to look through. If you only have two things in your library and someone subscribes and only sees two things in there, they might think, well where’s the rest. It’s like going to the public library and finding two books. Not too valuable right. You want people to dig in, to say oh my gosh, there’s so much good stuff in there I’m gonna need to bookmark this page so I can come back for more.
Your library contents should be on-brand and related to your niche. If it’s not useful to your audience don’t add it just to have stuff in there.
why are resource libraries so effective for growing your list?
Now, more than ever, people are picky about what they sign up for and if they are going to give you their name and number it has to be a high-value exchange.
A resource library filled with your best stuff is as high value as it gets. Instead of giving up your email address for one download, you’re giving up your email address for like ten or twenty things. So the perceived value is greater because you are receiving more!
Another awesome thing about creating a resource library is that it makes managing your email list so much easier. So, instead of having to create multiple lists for each content upgrade or opt-in you can get away with creating just one list and sending everyone to your resource library and letting them know, “Hey, grab your freebie from the resource library.”
Subscribers do not have to re-subscribe to download new freebies or content upgrades.
how to set up your resource library
Now let’s talk tech tools and set up? How do you go about making this happen?
Step #1 – You need a landing page or opt-in box where people can actually opt-in. You could use something like Magic Action Box or Lead Pages which is what I use.
Step #2 – You need an email autoresponder or service provider like ConvertKit. But you need an email service provider so you can send an automatic follow-up email with the link to your resource library and the password.
Step #3 – If your WordPress template doesn’t have a shortcode feature that allows you to create tables and buttons you can use tools like the Essential Grid plugin. If you are using something like Squarespace, they have a grid functionality built into their templates so you can use that.
Step #4 – Lastly, you’ll need a place to house your download files. I do not recommend uploading them directly to your WordPress media library. I recommend using something like S3 amazon which is a cloud storage where I keep all my digital files. If you already have an amazon account you can access s3 amazon.
So there you have it!!
A free resource library is an essential tool for establishing yourself as an authority. It shows your subscribers you’re willing to go above and beyond to help them succeed. It is a high-value opt-in offer and can dramatically grow your email list.
