How You Can Go From $0 to $6-Figures in Less Than a Year!
I'm sharing my 365 Day Step by Step Blog Plan because
I want you to succeed too!

Soooo, you want to start a blog do ya? But wait…Where do you start?

If you clicked on this page, you either clicked out of curiosity or because you’re desperate for some real answers.

Either way, consider this page your golden ticket to getting that blog of yours moving in the right direction. Below, are the questions that I receive every single day, from excited bloggers who are finally making the leap online. For many of you, who are just getting started in your blogging journey, every question you get answered, leads to 2 (or three) more, so I wanted to compile an ever-evolving resource that straight up answers the most frequently asked questions new bloggers have. This page will also help nix some of that anxiety you have when getting starting. Consider this your jumpstarter guide, but if there is anything else that pops up, just let me know and I’ll make sure I add it!

I am a blogging newbie? Where do I start?

You know everyone thinks we’re crazy, right?

To most of the world, blogging is a joke.

And you have just about the same chance of becoming a successful blogger as you do a professional NBA player.

It isn’t a career. It isn’t a way to make money. It isn’t a tool for changing the world.

It’s a hobby, a side-hustle, a “thing” you do that’ll be here one day and gone the next. Oh yeah, you can start a blog, but don’t bank on it to make you any money. Insane!

Try telling your family or friends or coworkers you want to ditch your 9-5 and make money blogging. I did…and here’s what happened..They’ll smile politely and ask, “Does anybody really make money from that?”

They’ll smile, said oh, that’s nice and asked, “Does anybody really make money from that?” (I promise you that to this day my parents don’t really understand what I do!)

The former professional world class athlete, gold medal-winning Olympian and Biochem major with parents who’ve been in real estate for over 40 years is a…hmmm hmmm…blogger!

But this blog chick has gone from ZERO to $10K days blogging.

And it’s all because I decided the block out the naysayers and simply start!

I didn’t know what I was doing, where I was going or how I was going to make money blogging. I just knew that if other people were doing it, I’d figure out a way to do it too!

So you may be asking, where do I start?

Like any new skill, blogging takes time to master. Blogging is not a get-quick-rich type of thing, it’s not a golden ticket but it’s also not rocket-science. So, please understand that while it will take work, it’s totally doable and that’s what I’m here for…to help you do it!

This Blog Means Business

How long does it take to start making money blogging?

Well, I’d say, the real question shouldn’t be, “How long will it take me to make money?”, but “How long will it take me to earn a living?” Making a few dollars here and there is not really going to cut it, if your ultimate goal is to ditch your day job and make your blog your primary source of income. So, the first thing I challenge you to do is to set some goals.

Most bloggers never make more that $100 a month blogging but This Blog Means Business shows you how to monetize your blog in a way that helps you achieve very specific profit goals based on the lifestyle you want to live. Many bloggers won’t see any money until 4-6 months in and then they’ll start off with a few dollars a month which can then grow to a few thousand after a year.

Every blog is different, but regardless of niche or passion, if you focus on income producing activities, leverage the right income sources and learn how to build a responsive email list, your potential to see a significant income very quickly increases exponentially. Plus, most bloggers simply give up too soon. If they don’t see money in the first few months, they quit, which is a total disserve to the people who are waiting for that special something-something only they can bring! But you’re not a quitter, right?!

So, if you are looking for more ways on how to turn your expertise into income, check out this popular post 24 Ways To Monetize Your Expertise As An Infopreneur. Implementing any one of these options can help you earn over $1,000 per month after a few months.

Can I reaaaalllly make money blogging?

If you’ve ever asked the question; “Can I really make money blogging” just take a look at the income reports of Pat Flynn, Melyssa Griffin or Michelle over at MakingSenseofcents.com. Now let me be clear, because I don’t want you to think I’m selling hype, not every blogger is going to make $100,000 a month blogging, and truth be told: “It takes time to build an income from blogging and no matter what stories you’ve read on different blogs, no true success ever happened overnight. (It only happens that way in the movies.)

But what if you could build your blog up to a cool $2000, $5000 or even $10,000 a month doing what you love?

I’ve done just about everything as an online business owner: network marketing, affiliate marketing, web design, brand coaching, speaking and now online courses.

So let me tell you that it can be done my friend – it can be done. Here are 5 of the best ways to monetize your blog (without sponsored posts or ads btw):

  1. Coaching: Now if you are looking for a way to start making money right away within the shortest period of time, offering coaching, consulting or services is the way to go.  You can throw up a sales pages and a paypal button in minutes and start driving people to your services. When it first started I offered one-on-one coaching to network marketers and small business owners who wanted to grow their business and brand online. I charged $1600 for 6 weeks of coaching and it helped me to establish myself as an authority and go-to resource in my niche while I worked on growing my audience and building out my online courses. It doesn’t matter when you started blogging or how much experience you’ve gained in that time – if you have a skil,l why not offer your services virtually?
  1.  Affiliate marketing: Affiliate marketing is a great way to earn an income if you don’t quite have the cajones to launch your own signature course. Not everyone is ready or has the desire to launch their own signature products. So the next best thing is to sell someone else’s. You can use your blog to promote other people’s products and when someone purchases that product or service through your unique affiliate link, the creator of that course gives you a small commission in return. There are thousands of affiliate programs out there and if you’re curious, sites will typically have a link at the bottom of their webpage that says ‘affiliates” which explains how to sign up for their program.
  1. Professional Speaking and Live Events: Another great way to make money with your blog is to market and promote yourself as a professional speaker or by putting on your own conferences, retreats or special events. You can do big events like a 7-day retreat in Bali or smaller events like a half day seminar or weekend workshop. You can create your own retreats and conferences or you can book speaking gigs where you speak to universities and corporations. If your focus is on speaking it’s important to establish your rates. You can make as little as zero dollars per gig of upwards of $25,000+ per speaking event if you are a well know established blogger.
  1. Physical Products: For many bloggers, their blogs have helped them sell books and become best-selling authors. Take Lewis Howes for example, after years of blogging and growing a popular podcast, he recently launched his book – The School of Greatness. Danielle LaPorte has built a multi-million dollar empire selling her Desire Map planner and she’s expanded into candles and other items. If you’re crafty you can create your own physical products or use your blog to sell and promote products manufactured by others. You can set up your own shop right on your blog for free using free plugins like WooCommerce or free ecommerce solutions like ECWID.
  1. Info ProductsOnline courses are the bomb.com! If there was such a thing as a magic bullet for your blog, online courses and info products are where it’s at. Personally, I think that the most lucrative way to earn money from your blog is to use your blog as a marketing tool and stepping stone to selling your own signature products and course. For me, online courses now make up about 90% of my monthly income. From selling ebooks to online courses I can earn an income passively – literally turning my blog into an atm by selling courses through my digital store and through the teachable platform.

So can you make money blogging? Yes, you can! It is possible to make money with a blog even if you are a mom, have a day job and have little time to invest. If you can consistently commit to putting in a few hours a week to grow your blog, you can most definitely build a mini-online empire.

How much does it cost to create a profitable blog?

Blogging is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to build a legitimate online business. To get started you’ll need the following:

  • Domain name (this is the URL you give peeps so they can find you online -$15 per year)
  • Self-hosted blogging platform (WordPress.org is FREE)
  • Hosting account (to house your blog and all of its contents – $5-10/month)
  • A functional theme (and there are hundreds of FREE themes)
  • Email service provider (prices vary depending on plan and service provider, but can start with Mailchimp for FREE)
  • Time

When I first launched my blog, I spent less than $50 for everything ($3.96 for my hosting, 99 cents for my domain name and $19 for my email service provider). I didn’t even buy a premium (paid) theme until my 4th year of blogging and my first major investment was in a product delivery platform I needed to start selling my own online courses and info products. Now my blog makes thousands of dollars a month and it cost me under $350 to run it. Most of that money goes to my email service provider and the Teachable course platform I use to host and deliver my online courses!

I mean really, where can you get a return like that? Compared to any other J.O.B., blogging is the LEAST expensive but the MOST rewarding in terms of income and time freedom!

How much time does blogging take?

Making a full-time income from blogging does not require full-time effort. One of the perks of blogging is that you can build a very profitable business putting in a good 10 hours a week. Now, the first few months of blogging is the most overwhelming and time-consuming. But once you get your blog running and you have a few pillar posts on tap, a few solid hours a week is all it takes to nurture and grow.

How much time and effort you put in depends on how much you want to make and how fast. I put in about 2 hours a day on my blog, and most of that is in marketing and content creation (blog posts, content upgrades, newsletters and online courses). The rest is in answering emails, responding to comments in my Facebook Group and networking.

I suggest posting at least once a week, maybe even two times a week if you can handle it. The more quality content you get out there, the faster you will be able to drive traffic to your blog and build your email list.

The great thing about being a blogger is that you can set your own hours, work when you want, anywhere you want. It is super flexible and you can work mornings, during the kid’s nap or school times, for a few hours after your day job, or you can work late nights when everyone else is asleep.

The most important thing is to find a flow that works best for you, a time where you can be most productive and then put in the work, focusing on income producing activities like marketing, building strategic relationships and list-building. (updating your blog colors every 2 weeks is not an income producing activity…just an FYI!) Remember, consistency is the key to success. I think I know what I want to blog about but how do I know my niche is profitable?

When you make the decision to start a blog, you probably have a pretty good idea of what you want to start your blog in, right? But, the problem isn’t about whether you are doing something you are passionate about, the problem is in whether that passion of yours can actually make you money.

You may find yourself in one of three places:

  • You already know what you like and are clear on the direction you want to take your blog
  • You are multi-passionate and are trying to “make the right choice” on the direction to take your blog
  • You are purpose-less and passion-less with no direction whatsoever where you want to take your blog

Need help finding your passion? Here are a few questions to help you uncover what you love:

  1. If you could start a business doing anything in the world, or get paid to do or make something for others, what would it be?
  2. Write down all your strengths, gifts, talents, and attributes. What do you know you are good at? What do other people tell you you’re good at? Are you an explosive speaker? An exceptional leader? Maybe you have a knack for targeting technology trends or great with kids?
  3. If you can’t seem to pinpoint your own passions, let’s look from the outside in. Your family and friends may have answers that you are unable to see within yourself. What do other people (family, friends, coaches, etc.) tell you you’re GREAT at? What do others constantly come to you for advice for or commended you on?
  4. Lastly, can any of “the things you love”  solve a problem for someone else and if so can you monetize it?

When choosing which passion to pursue you want to make your ideas fall within a particular niche and in a niche where other people are making money and finding success. When building a business or product, it’s vital to solve a real problem for people. That is what people will pay for.

There are so many blogging courses all promising to help me make money, which one(s) do I choose?

Give me a topic, any topic, and I can find at least 100 different blogs, courses, ebooks, workshops, or webinars for ya! There are an endless stream of “I know I can show you how to make money” stuff floating around and believe me, it can be hard to decipher what’s real, what’s not, what you need, what you don’t and to tell you the truth there’s a ton of great stuff from a lot of people out there but there is also a lot of trash. Plus, if you gave 10 people the same info, you’d see 10 different results!

So, when you are looking to fill in the gaps, learn a little bit (or a lot) about a certain topic, which online course or info products do you choose?

As a newbie blogger the best advice I can give you is to find a few key people, influencers or bloggers who you vibe with – meaning you enjoy their content, look forward to reading their emails and love checking them out on social media – then study their success. The key is to figure out who can deliver the results that matter most to you.

Before I buy a course I ask the following questions:

  1. Why do I want this course?
  2. Will this course help me achieve my goals?
  3. Is the price right? Can I afford it?
  4. Is the course being delivered in a format I like?
  5. Do I enjoy the course creator’s other content?
  6. Have I gotten results from the course creator’s other content? (blog, email, challenges, social media, etc.)
  7. Does the course creator have a good reputation?
  8. Is their adequate support offered?

I’ve purchased enough online courses and info products to know that you will win some and you will lose some. And…that what some people rave about, will make you say, are you for real? It’s the nature of being a student of your craft. Just think about your favorite teachers in high school…You didn’t know you loved them (or didn’t) until you actually took their class. And the most popular classes are not always the best classes. The same rings true as you continue to learn as a business owner.

Be a student of the game. You will never find an online course that is an one-size-fits-all or one that gives you everything you need to learn as you grow and develop as an entrepreneur. Be willing to invest in different things, from different people, who can give you different perspectives and strategies on how to accomplish your goals. Then take that knowledge and create a system that works for YOU!

How many blog posts should I have before I launch?

It’s time to share your blog with the world…but wait, “Is it ready to launch? Do I have enough content? Am I missing any important pages?” I know I asked all the same questions before I got the guts to go live. Setting up your blog is one thing, sharing it with people is quite another!

So, before you start promoting your blog, I suggest you have the following ready:

  • A clear and easy to navigate blog menu
  • A clear call to action above the fold of your blog home page
  • lead generating About Me Page
  • A professional and pretty profile picture (people need to know YOU!)
  • A Terms + Conditions Page (especially if you are using affiliate marketing)
  • An easy to find contact page
  • Links to your social media pages

You also want to have:

  •  A minimum of 3-5 “binge-worthy blog posts” published. These are in depth, 3000+ word post that gives extraordinary value to your target audience. It addresses a main need or pain point people in your niche face. Starting off with 3-5 pillar posts will lay the foundation for your blog, encourage engagement and boost your shares on social media. It’s all about setting the tone and creating momentum. You want to let people know you are the real deal and have a lot to offer.
  • Content upgrades for your pillar blog posts to boost subscribers.
  • Calls-to-action and opt-in opportunities throughout your blog content, blog pages, and blog sidebar.

For example, if you blog about yoga, here are a few examples of great pillar posts:

  1. The Ultimate Guide to Yoga For Newbies
  2. The 100 Benefits of Yoga For Women
  3. The Pros and Cons of Yoga for Kids
  4. Everything You Need to Know about Baby and Me Yoga
  5. The Ultimate List of Yoga Pants (And My Absolute Favorite Brand)

A pillar post may take me 3-4 days to put together, because it’s that extensive. You want your pillar posts to almost be a resource guide or step-by-step tutorial that if you put a price tag on it, people would pay for it. Yep, it needs to be that good! Ultimately you want your readers to say, “I better bookmark this blog so I can come back!” Below are a few examples of “binge-worthy” pillar posts.

Take your time putting together your best advice. You want people to come to your blog and be WOWED by your content, even if there are just a few.

In my popular course, This Blog Means Business, I show you step by step how to do everything I mentioned above and so much more!

There's so many ``bloggers`` online, who should I follow? (plus my top 10 faves!)

There’s an endless stream of info and people out there teaching on the same topics you will be talking about on your blog. So when you are in need of guidance or advice who do you follow? Which email lists should you join? Here are a few steps to finding people to follow:

  1. See who’s hot on social media. Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram (just like Google) are all search engines. Type in your niche specific keywords and see what pops up. If you see certain people popping up all the time, it’s for a reason (hint…they are popular) so it might be a good idea for you to check them out too.
  2. Ask around in Facebook groups. One of the best places to get feedback on who to follow, which courses to buy and what’s working now is to simply search FB groups in your niche.

Now beware! Don’t follow 1000 different people online. Ain’t nobody got time for that! lol! Find a few people you resonate with, have killer content and a community you can really dig into. You want to follow people in your niche but you may also find you can get inspiration from and learn game-changing strategies from people outside your industry, in niches totally unrelated to your own.

Here are 10 of my favorite bloggers (and in no particular order):

  1. Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income
  2. Stacia Pierce of LifeCoach2Women
  3. Melyssa Griffin
  4. Kat + Karina of Tone It Up
  5. Jon Morrow of Smart Blogger
  6. Danielle LaPorte
  7. Nicole S. Cooper
  8. Jenna Kutcher
  9. Cici of The Six Figure Chick
  10. Pauline Cabrera of Twelveskip

I have a blog but need a step-by-step plan to monetize it...

Do you know what’s worst than never starting your blog? Launching a blog that doesn’t get noticed! I’ve been there, done that! You are doing everything you know how, but for whatever reason nothing is working and you are at the point where you just don’t know what to do next. You’ve spent countless hours creating post after post, sharing them on social media and pinning them on Pinterest. But still, you’re not seeing the results of all your labor. What are you missing?

I want to share with you the plan I used (and still use) to build a 6-figure blog with a growing email list of over 7000 subscribers, in less than a year. Of course, results vary, but if you put in the work, you’ll be able to make a $2000, $5000, even $10,000 after 12 months of following this plan. There are no shortcuts to success but if you put in the work from the very beginning, you’ll be lightyears ahead of the competition! Get it below and turn your blog into a profitable business!
