networking tipsNetworking is a word that made me cringe – You mean I have to really get out there and talk to people I don’t know?

Shoot!

I know many of you share my sentiment when it comes to forcing yourself into a conversation for the sake of promoting…well you!

Networking for me always seemed a little fake and disingenuous.

But when you think about it, networking when done right and with the right intentions is far from being fake and insincere.

The problem with networking is that we suddenly act in a way that is “not normal” for us so it comes across as uncomfortable, awkward and pushy.

So how do you move from networking being that awkward, I’m only talking to you because I want to sell, pitch or get something out of you to a genuinely friendly, unselfish and useful experience that still allows you to showcase your value as a professional to others?

Networking is a skill that successful entrepreneurs understand, utilize and master every single day to open up new doors of opportunity. In an effort to help you get out of your networking stupor, I have outlined 17 networking tips any entrepreneur can master.

Why Are You Networking In The First Place?

1.  It’s Not Who You Know, It’s Who Knows You - The most important goal of networking is to show people how you can help them. Your talent is important and it isn’t who you know, but who knows you and knows what you know.

A strong professional network opens up doors of opportunity far beyond your immediate contacts. Opportunities often arise when someone you know refers you to someone you don’t know because that person is looking to fill a specific set of needs and your direct contact feels you would be a good fit.

Your job during networking is to simply let people know who you are and the value you can provide to others. Do a good job at this and when the time comes you’ll be  the first person that comes to mind.

2. Go Where The Relationships Are – Want to network? Take the time to go where such relationships can happen. Attend meetups with groups that share similar passions as you. While you want to network with people in the same or related niche, don’t forget about meeting people outside of your business realm. Some of the very best business opportunities and partnerships I’ve had have come from meeting people outside of my niche.

3. Found them? Now develop them -  Networking is a two-way street and you always want to feel that you are developing real connections with people that last beyond the initial introduction. To understand the people you want to potentially do business with in the future, you must get to know them. You must engage, ask questions, and nurture conversations. You have to find out what’s important to them, what their goals are along with their needs. And the only way to do this is to maintain regular correspondence with them.

4. Validate Others First – It’s never a great idea to request anything, of anyone right off the bat. Keep in mind that you must earn favor, don’t expect anything from anyone – especially if you have not given any value first. Compliment, use positive banter and if people are response, they have opened themselves to doing business with you.

5. Value is the # 1 Priority – You should always approach networking from the position of  “How much value can I provide?” The more value you create the more the ‘law of reciprocity” will kick in and you’ll find good things will always be waiting for you. When you focus on helping the people you contact people will be more and more willing to help you out in return.

6. Plant the seeds, but don’t forget to water the grass – What make networking work is your ability to nurture your current network. You can not build your business on new business relationships alone, reach out to the network that you already have. Share beneficial information with friends, family, co-workers, associates, etc. These people already have some level of trust when it comes to dealing with you and will be more apt to share what you have going on with others.

7. The Power of 5 – Set a goal to reach out the a minimum of 5 new people a day. This can be on Facebook, at networking events, conferences and even when you are out doing your daily routine. If you reach out to 5 new people every single day, that would be about 1,825 new connections a year. Not everyone you connect with is going to respond and most connections will not yield any immediate return (if any at all) but if you reach out to that many new people, then you’re bound to bump into the right person at the right time who can help you grow your business.

8. Your Network Is Your Net “worth” - Remember to choose your networks wisely. Attend events that have the type of people who can really support you and your business in a positive way. When you can leave an event feeling like you’ve just been injected with a dose of positive possibilities you know you’re around the right group of people. Remember you network is your net worth so make sure you are meeting and greeting with positive, professional and prosperous driven individuals.

9. Be likeable - While there are many people out there that have the “value” factor, not everyone has the “like” factor. People will do business with people they know, like and trust. If you are lacking on any one of those three levels find out where you need to improve – because not being liked can ruin your business and reputation.

10. Keep an open mind -Some of the most unlikely partnerships flourish out of opportunities of openness. Don’t ever underestimate or cast someone off as irrelevant because they don’t meet the expectation of what your ideal “networking connection” should look, walk, talk, act or be like. Maybe you don’t think a local school teacher wouldn’t be a good contact because you don’t have any kids but if you sell a product that is for kids or better yet a product for parents with kids, you’ll be glad you reached out to someone that has the “in” with your target audience.

11. Be yourself – This networking tip should be a no-brainer but you’d be surprised by how many people network “outside of themselves”. Networking is so fun because you get to meet people from all walks of life, who come from different backgrounds, and possess skill sets different than your own. Appreciate the fact that you are unique as well and that while you may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the people who you do attract are the ones you are supposed to be connected to. Don’t fall into the trap of acting, looking, and walking like someone else just because that is what you think others want to see. Keep it real and your connections will be more meaningful and based on your true authentic self rather than some wannabe.

12. Remember the core of belly to belly “networking” – Not all business can be done virtually through social media outlets. Get out of the house, volunteer, join groups, and become active in a community where you can meet people of similar interest.  Offer your services (pro bono) to a non-profit organization, church or school. This is how real relationships are formed.

13. Don’t waste time – People are extremely busy. You must be respectful of other people’s time – the same as you would want them to respect your time. Time in essence is more valuable than money. Get to the point, state your business and discuss the matters at hand. Your goal is to have leave a conversation feeling productive, positive and like the time spent was well worth it.

14. Focus on Quality NOT Quantity – what’s the point in having hundreds, even thousands of people in your Rolodex if they are not the right people to move your business forward. Instead, focus on networking with people that are relevant to you. It’s better to have a handful of people who can truly increase your business clout than it is to have many that only know your name.

15. Become A Social Connector – Get into the habit of not only introducing yourself but introducing others. Become a connector, tie people who need each other together. The best networkers are business match makers. The simple task of connecting like-minded people who share similar interests is a powerful to enhance your network. Once you do the initial introduction, step back and let them take it from there. If it flourishes into something greater, you’ll be remembered as the one who sparked the connection and people will be forever grateful.

16. Let Your Business Card Do The Talking – One of the best tools I have in my networking toolbox is my business card. Have a business card that makes an impact and deep impression on your connection. A great business card will have people talking. If you exchange business cards and no one comments on yours you are missing an opportunity. I use business cards by moo which allows me to promote myself and draw people to my online profile. I can’t tell you how many positive comments I’ve gotten just from handing out my card – these are the tiny things that make people remember you long after the networking event is over!

17. Follow Up – The real networking comes after the initial introduction. Make sure you are following up with your new connection withing 24-48 hours of meeting them. You want to stay at the top of their minds and on the tip of their tongues so to ensure you are not easily forgotten send a thank you note, email or text. Pick up the phone, send  a Facebook message or tag a picture of you and your new connection. The better you are at carrying the conversation outside of the initial meetup, the better chances you have of building a strong relationship that can lead to a golden opportunity.

Network Marketing – A Recession Ball Buster?

network marketingNetwork marketing is an industry that has grown significantly over the past 20 years, especially in times of economic recession and I have personally seen this professional rescue a few friends and family members who were on the brink of financial crisis.

What do you do when big corporations, a wavering economy and plain old bad timing let’s you down?

What do you do when you’ve stacked all your eggs in the “JOB basket” and you’ve missed the mark?

More and more people are coming to the realization that the old formula is just not working and if you don’t have a plan B, C and D lined up you can find yourself in a serious financial slump.

What people need (and are looking for) is something different, something better, solutions they can utilize to take control of their own destiny and fight their way out of their current financial woes.

Unemployment

One of the key indicators of the health of the economy is the unemployment rate. The United States is currently boasting an unemployment rate of 9%. This means over 14 million Americans are out of a JOB. This does not include people who have given up looking for a job or have taken jobs for which they are overqualified and underpaid.

It takes the average person an average of 40 weeks to find a job and according to 60 minutes, 1.5 Million Americans have exhausted the unemployment benefits.

Debt

This is another indicator that is equally as bleak. According to CreditCards.com, U.S. households are racking up revolving debt to the tune of $853 billion and the total U.S consumer debt in 2010 was $2.45 trillion. The average credit card debt per household was $16,007, college students are accruing an average of $3,173 and 21% of college students had balances between $3000 and $7000.

Individual savings are down and with the world money markets out of wack the value of our money and our buying power has declines as well. So we are making less money and the money we do make get’s us less.

Getting Out

So how do we get out of this rut? How can we plan to retire without having to work until we take our last breath? How do we prepare for the future?

People are finally waking up and realizing that they have to begin seeking options that will put them in charge of their own financial future.

More and more people are seeking alternative means of income, multiple streams of income. And this is where network marketing comes in to save the day.

Network marketing is a great way to work from home while building residual income with unlimited earning potential. The system is undiscriminating and it is a legitimate alternative to economic uncertainty and financial instability.

Now I am not saying network marketing is going to be easy. It takes work and it takes know-how. But for anyone who is looking for something more in life, looking for control, looking for an honest way to build passive residual income, network marketing is a great place to start.

People out there are looking for solutions, they are looking for a way out, praying for answers. Network marketing allows you to not only rescue yourself but it allows you to be of value to others, rescuing them from financial destruction and meltdown.

Show them that you have a VISION and you are going somewhere.

Show them that you have passion.

Show them that you have a winning attitude.

Show them that you SHOW UP TO WIN.

Show them that you EXPECT nothing but SUCCESS!

You have to let people now you are DEAD SERIOUS about the network marketing game…and that you are WINNING with or without them.

If you are always showing up, if you are always ready to win…people know they can trust you, they know they can depend on you to make the right move…they know you will be there to lead them to the finish line.

When you open up your doors to recruit, they’ll jump on board. Because they know there is SUCCESS written all over it and you are going for the GOLD.

How To Respond To How Much Money Do You Make?

mlm money answerThere is probably no greater fear that network marketers have than someone asking them How Much Money Do You Make?

What!!!

Whether you are new to network marketing or been in the game for many years but haven’t had much success yet, there will be many times when you will be confronted with this question. I’ve learned a few different ways to respond to the How Much Money Do YOU Make question, but this one I’m going to share with you today is probably to best MLM answer I’ve come across and one I implement and teach to my team.

Everybody Starts At The Bottom.

In the span of a year I was in about 4 different MLM companies. Why? Because I just couldn’t ‘get it’ right. I was a horrible network marketer. I didn’t like to talk to anyone, I was out of my comfort zone and even though I did have some success I really didn’t know how to truly create wealth as a network marketing professional. You’ll soon come to realize that the majority of successful network marketers SUCKED …they started at the bottom but didn’t quit and worked their way up, including myself.

So…What If You Have Not Made Much Money Yet?

When I first started in network marketing I think the very first check I got was like $12. Not anything to really get excited about right!

Now, if someone asked me the question, “Well, Andrea, How much money did you earn your first month?” and I had to respond with the answer, “Well I’ve only made $12.” — that could kill your recruiting! (and actually I did tell someone that and he laughed at me…LOUD!)

I was so embarrassed and quite frankly my feelings were hurt. I immediately got on the Internet and started looking for ways to respond to people who asked me how much money I’ve made in my network marketing business. I came across a discussion on the BetterNetworker Forum, where someone was asking “How much money did you earn your first month?” – this is what he says:

“I wish I knew. I’m still building my fortune. You see, the beauty of network marketing is that you continue to get paid residual income in this business. I’m still earning money off the efforts from my very first month in business!”

How freakin GENIUS is that? So how can you actually build on this statement as you grow your income in this business. Here’s my personal example…As I got better at sponsoring more people and started to build upon my income, I was able to explain that while my income was very little when I first got started, me and my team got busy and I was soon making well over $500 a month which turned into $500 a week when eventually turned in to $500 a day!

Don’t Ever Let Anyone Kill Your Dream Because You Haven’t Made It Yet!

Look whether it takes you a few months or a few years to ‘make it’ in network marketing, don’t let anyone kill your dream of becoming the winning networker you what to be. People will ask you all kinds of questions, they’ll challenge you, they’ll laugh in your face, they’ll tell you’re nuts. People will ask you questions that they wouldn’t even think about asking anyone else. WHY? Because you are trying to get them to do join YOU in business.Would they question a lawyer or ask a lawyer how much they make…Probably not, but you have to realize that lawyers are also not recruiting people to join them in business either (unless they are network marketers too!! LOL!).

So don’t be discouraged, just know that you’ll get there one day if you continue to work hard, continue to invest in yourself, continue to develop your skills and continue to find ways to WIN in your business.

5 Questions To Ask Before Joining A Home Based Business

best home based businessI’ve had quite a few people I’ve met ask me if joining a home based business is the right move for them. And while many people say they want to enjoy a lifestyle of freedom, have more time, and make more money, the truth is not everyone is built to become an home based business owner. Not everyone can handle to rejection, not everyone want to do the work, and not every one is willing to do what it takes to win as a home business owner.

This profession is definitely not for everybody…and that’s ok…but what questions should you ask before joining a home based business to see if it is a good fit for you.

With so many choices and so many different ways to earn income from home, hopefully this post today will help those currently researching home business opportunities.

5 Questions To Ask Before Joining A Home Based Business

1) Are you happy with your money lifestyle right now?

2) Are you living a life that you feel will inspire and impact your children?

3) Are you OK with spending more time with framed pictures of your family on your desk than the real thing?

4) Are you perfectly OK with exchanging your time for a paycheck for the next 20-40 years?

5) Are you 100% happy with the flexibility you have at your current job? Can you take off when you want, can you get up and go when you need to..without having to ask for permission!

If you answered no to one, two, or all of the questions above….Do you get the feeling that NOW may be a good time to be consider finding a way to turn those NOs into Yeses?

It is important not only to know if a home based business is right for you but WHY joining a home based business is right for you. If you don’t have a WHY that will move you to action and keep you motivated when building your home based business, you will probably fall into the network marketing graveyard that so may once excited marketers find themselves in.

Here’s a way to truly help you build your homebased business

When you think of any one of the questions above do any of them give you a feeling frustration, make you annoyed or down right angry? Which questions for lack of a better term…Bring the PAIN! Now what I want you to do is determine what is more painful, going out, meeting new people, talking to them about your business, inviting them to hear about your opportunity or continuing to live a life that lacks control, lacks freedom and lacks possibility.

I hate the idea of not having control over my experiences, or working so hard for someone else that has no loyalty to me, or missing out on the important events in my son’s life. These are the reasons WHY I love building my home based business. I love the freedom, the flexibility, the ability to spend more time with the people I love, doing the things I love, when I want to do them. Things that I couldn’t do while I was working in corporate America. I hope this moves you one step closer to knowing if the MLM lifestyle is the right lifestyle for you and your family!

Winning MLM Training: What Do You Say When People Ask You About Your Success?

mlm trainingThere will be many times in your network marketing career when people you are actively recruiting will flat out ask you “How are you doing?” or “How much money are you making?”

This can be a deal breaker especially for newbie network marketers who have not yet had ANY success yet or the right MLM training to help them overcome this hurdle. Unless you know EXACTLY what to say, you can find yourself in a tough spot when trying to close someone into your business, particularly when you are trying to recruit SuperStars!

There is a very easy and simple way to overcome these objections so let’s get in to some winning MLM training to show you how:

We all know that most people you approach about your MLM opportunity are skeptical and actually looking for reasons to say no to you. And while even the best of the best can’t “get them all” this mlm training is going to assist you to now only approach but respond to  your prospects in an effective, positive way, increasing your chances of closing them into your business opportunity, regardless of the level of success you’ve had.

Have a Winning Game Plan

Just like any goal you are striving to accomplish in life, if you want to win you have to be prepared. You have to have a game plan and you have to hone your skills. That means being knowledgeable about what it takes to become a GREAT recruiter.

Ask your upline, plug into team trainings, read network marketing books. If you are stuck or don’t know how to overcome objections that are keeping you from growing your organization then locate someone that has experience, training tools, systems in place that are helping them to be successful.If your company does not have any training in place…you need to reconsider the company you are building with…and that’s the truth!

Now, when you are presenting your opportunity and your prospect asks you “How much success have YOU had?” you can answer with the following:

“Truthfully, I am just getting started but the person that is training me and will be training you is currently_____________”

  • A top income earner in the in company
  • Has made millions of dollars in the industry
  • Just won a brand new car
  • Making about $25,000 a month
  • Recruiting about 10 people a month into his/her business

Now what did I just do?

I leveraged the success of my mentor, my upline leader, the person I am learning from who has already had some significant success in the network marketing profession. My association with this person let’s my prospect know that I am able to at least connect them someone that can show them exactly what to do to succeed, even if I am not at that current level yet.

Confidence. Mindset. Posture

If you are not enrolling people into your business opportunity on a consistent basis it shows in how confidently you are presenting your business to others. Many times, it’s not what you say, but the confidence and mindset you have that gets other people excited.   If you lack confidence, don’t have the proper mindset, then it shows in your posture.

Look at yourself first to determine if you are conveying a confidence. When you know that you know that you know your business opportunity is GREAT and is changing lives it comes through even of you don’t 100% know all the right things to say. It’s not the level of knowledge you possess, it’s the level of belief you have that is going to help you overcome most objections that come your way.

When you increase your skills you increase your bank account. Practice, practice, practice and you’ll find that you’ll be able to handle most anything people throw at you! Never Be At Lost For Words Again! What To Say To Convert MLM Leads

calling mlm leadsWoohooo! You’ve worked hard and got your first MLM leads. That is awesome. So now what do you do those leads? What’s the next step?

These are probably the most common concerns that newbie marketers ask me. Today’s post is doing to break down and dissect exactly what you need to do and say to covert your MLM leads to new reps in your business or affiliate income opportunity.

How to reach out to MLM Leads You’ve Met In Person

Local leads are the very best leads leads to have. When you are out and meeting people at local meetups, networking events, or even at the grocery store you want to follow up ASAP. The longer it takes for you to call them back, the less likely they will recall meeting you, having given you their information and the greater chance you will have of NOT converting them.

1. “Hey, this is ____ (your full name). I met you ____(ex. yesterday at the savvy women entrepreneurs meet up)  and I am just calling you to let you know it was a pleasure. If I can help you in any way, call me back at ______.”

2. If you get their voicemail, always leave a voicemail.

How to reach out to MLM Leads that have opted into your website or blog

1. Call them back ASAP. If you get their voicemail, always leave a voicemail saying, “Hey, this is ____ (your full name), from ________(city and state you are calling from). You visited my website at ____(when they opted in, ex. yesterday, a few hours ago, etc.) and I am just calling you to let you know there is a real person behind the website. If I can help you in any way, call me back at ______.” 

2. If you want to be more vague, pique a higher level of curiosity and increase the amount of callbacks you get, try leaving this message “Hey, this is ______(your first name only), I was referred to you, you can reach me at _______”.

If you have an opt in form that does not have an option for our MLM leads to enter their telephone or skype details, the very first email your new lead receives from you should be a Welcome email that lets them know you are available, you are a real person and that you are there to help them.

You also see that I include links to whatever product I want them to be exposed to right off the bat. It could an info-product (free report, audio, free training video, etc) or your marketing system (i.e. MLSP). Unless your website or opt-in form is specifically offering more information for people who want financial freedom or want more info on your home business I would not lead with your business opportunity. You will want to back-end that once you’ve developed a relationship with your leads.

What Should I Pitch To Them?

2. I get this question ALL THE TIME. “Andrea, when I call these leads back, what should I pitch to them? Should I pitch MLSP, my personal training or my primary business opportunity first?” I suggest NOT going in to the call with a predetermined pitch. I suggest calling them first and LISTENING to what they say. Once you find out what problems they are currently having in their business (if any) you can then determine if you are able to offer them a solution.

  • Do they already have a home based business?
  • Are they happy with the income they are generating?
  • Are they having problems generating leads?
  • Is building their business online an option for them?
  • What marketing strategies have they already tried?
  • etc, etc, etc.

Listen to what they are looking for and what they are also able to do. If someone is complaining to you how broke they are and how money is an issue, then you may want to promote to them a product or solution that has a low price point to get them going. If you are talking to a person that is having a problem generating leads but is happy with their network marketing business pitch them something like My Lead System Pro.

As you are talking to them, make sure you are taking notes. After you find out what their main challenges are, what their wants and problems are, offer them a solution. For example, you mentioned you are struggling with _______, if I could show you a way that would help with that, would you be open to it or are you not that serious about it right now? When they answer that they are serious, respond with, I have a short video at ______, take some time to watch it to see if it’s a fit for you or not and if it is or you have questions, call me back at _________.

Also reach out and connect with them on Facebook. You’ll be surprised by how many people are willing to connect with you on facebook but won’t return your calls initially. It’s a great way to connect, let them know you are there and paying attention and it makes it easier to get them on the phone with you.
