If you are constantly complaining about how much you hate your job, it may be time to escape your 9-5 and find something better. But hold on…Before you up and quit your job today you need to have a plan of action so you don’t find yourself hating your life even more because you can’t pay your bills, your worried about replacing your income and you don’t know where you’ll get the money to feed your family.
Escaping your 9-5 and the corporate world is not an easy decision and it’s not something you should do without thinking it through. So here are 5 steps you need to know to map out your escape!
How To Escape Your 9-5 For Good…
1. Plan your escape
Be smart! Create a strategic plan for leaving your job and consider how much time you need to replace that income. You may find you need to scale back on your expenses or pay off some debt for you give your job the dueces for good. Pick a specific date you want to quit – yes set your intentions – map out what you need to know to become a successful entrepreneur (i.e. choosing a niche, learning the skills, investing in the tools and resources, etc), then take action on moving toward your income goals.
2. Change your intentions
Instead of constantly complaining about how much you hate your job, each day tell yourself you are committed to doing 1 thing that will get you one step closer to escaping your 9-5 for good. Once you’ve started planning your escape, your intentions need to shift from “I have to get out of here” to “What will I do today to ensure I am a successful entrepreneur by this date”.
3. Leverage your skills
You have an escape plan ready, now use the skills you currently have to create the life you want. Think about what your job has taught you and what specific skills you have acquired that will either allow you to begin making money on the side or support your growth as an entrepreneur.
4. Change your attitude
Choose to focus on having a positive attitude as you transition into a new career path. Your attitude will affect your progress and you want to move into the next phase of your life carrying an energy that supports change, growth and success. Know that you have a purpose that is waiting to be fulfilled and let your posture reflect that.
5. Expect success
When you want something better to manifest in your life you have to expect that it will come to pass. You will achieve more, faster, if you expect great things to happen. When you have the mindset that failing is acceptable…then you are telling yourself that you don’t really, truly believe in your potential. 1. Don’t Be A Copy Cat
Learning from and implementing what other industry leaders are doing is important, don’t get me wrong. But the biggest trap online entrepreneurs and small business owners make is trying to duplicate and systemize someone else’s success and do EXACTLY what they are doing hoping they’ll be able to create the same results.
Well this is a recipe for disaster and failure…
The equation to someone else’s success will never add up because the one variable that will always be different is YOU!
Who you attract, how you present yourself to your audience, the little nuances that make you who you are can never be duplicated by someone else and it’s important to be comfortable with who you are, and the value you can bring to your audience.
Give yourself to grow and develop as a business owner. Give yourself time to find your way and to see what fits for you. Don’t try to take someone else’s way of doing things and force it to work for you. Instead implement and use the pieces that allow you to grow without losing yourself in the process.
2. Engage With People
Talk to people just like you would talk to them in your own home or as a friend. Engagement is KEY to building trust, meaningful connections and loyal followers. Treat your fans, followers and subscribers as if they were just an extension of your family! For many of us this may be hard or feel uncomfortable but remember, if you want people to value your opinions, value what the information you share with them and trust you enough to buy from you, then you are going to have to open up and let them in!
The social media culture has allowed us to share our stories with people all across the world. It has allowed us to connect and engage with people outside our neighborhood or area of influence. Use this to your advantage. It may seem a little weird at first, but keep practicing, keep getting to know people who are engaging with you and pretty soon you’ll be connecting and sharing as if you’ve known these people your whole lives!
3. Don’t ditch your purpose
When things don’t grow as fast or we don’t see results as quickly as we cant them, we are quick to ditch our ideas and create a new plan hoping this route will get me where I need to go faster. This type of midset and self-sabotage doesn’t move you forward in fact it keeps you in a constant state of “RESTARTING”.
If you find you are constantly starting, then stopping, starting them stopping, then you’ll never reach your goals.
Stick to the plan long enough to know if it is really working or not. Success does not come overnight. Give yourself permission to see your way through the challenges and obstacles of becoming a successful entrepreneur. That’s the only way to learn! In the end it will only make YOU, YOUR BRAND and YOUR BUSINESS stronger!
